Sydney Metro has awarded a set of four large contracts to companies aiding in the development of the city’s Sydney Metro West project.
The four contracts concern the delivery of track, installation of rail systems, construction of maintenance facilities, design, rolling stock and more.

Firstly, the Linewide Package, which involves the delivery of 60kms of track, installation of rail systems and construction of a new, expansive, 38-hectare stabling and maintenance facility in Clyde; has been awarded to John Holland, with next year set to see roughly 1,000 workers begin work in metro tunnels up to 37 metres beneath the city to fit tracks, power, ventilation and communications systems.
Gamuda has been awarded the first station contract, which covers both the design and construction of five new underground metro stations at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays.
The Trains, Systems, Maintenance and Operations (TSMO) contract has been awarded to the Metro Trains West Consortium, a joint venture led by MTR Corporation (MTR) with CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC). The package spans a 22-year period, and will include the delivery of 16 next-generation metro trains.
The Consortium will also be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Sydney Metro West network for 15 years after the line’s opening to passengers in 2032.
Finally; the Metropolis Consortium, comprising Lendlease, Mirvac, and Coombes Property Group, has been appointed as Precinct Development Partner for one of the most significant urban renewal projects in the Sydney CBD – Hunter Street Station.
The package includes the construction of the underground metro staton and two over-station commercial developments the station will anchor, with Lendlease expected to begin construction of the station’s main works in late 2026.
All remaining contracts for Sydney Metro West stations at Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, and Pyrmont will be announced in 2026.
A shortlist of three consortia has also been invited to tender for the Pyrmont Integrated Station Development contract, including Gamuda Engineering, Gamuda (Australia) and Urban Property Group Australasia; John Holland and Third.i Property ; and Watpac Construction and Plenary Origination.
The chosen consortium will be contracted to deliver the underground station and 31-storey building integrated development above it which will feature five levels of commercial and retail space, along with up to 160 new apartments.
