Metrolinx has conducted the first on-rail test along the new Finch West route, with the first light rail vehicle to travel the full alignment reaching speeds of up to 60 km per hour.

As the Finch West LRT moves closer to completion, testing crews are working to establish the performance of a variety of systems and functions, including vehicle movement, communication system performance, electric connectivity and power transfers.

In recent months, Metrolinx has also completed the installation of an overhead catenary system, as well as 116 pedestrian canopies along the route, marking each stop.

The company has also received the full delivery of 18 light rail vehicles for use along the line.

Metrolinx has advised the public that during the testing and commissioning phase, pedestrians will notice an increase in traffic across the route, with extra police officers and construction crew on hand at all times to assist with on-foot traffic around the site.
