The 5.8km planned extension of Line 14 which stretches between St Lazare to Mairie de St Ouen moved a step closer to construction, as the first phase of the Grand Paris express metro network was granted public utility status.

Grand Paris Blue Line

The extension will cover four-stations and will eventually form part of the 28km northern section of the Grand Paris Blue Line. It is hoped that the extension of Line 14 will help relieve one of the most congested sections of the Paris Metro, north of St Lazare on Line 13.

Construction of the €1.2 billion project is expected to begin in late 2013 with commissioning scheduled for 2017. The Ile de France Transport Authority (STIP) and Paris Transport Authority (RATP) will have the plans for the project submitted to them in December which will also include construction of a new depot north of Clichy St Ouen RER station.
