Eurostar Golden Train Transports Team GB Athletes

Eurostar’s high-speed service between France and the UK has transported over 230 Team GB athletes back from the Olympic Games Paris.

The golden e320 trains were decorated in honour of the athletes, who have been travelling to and from the Games by Eurostar. This summer, the trains are welcoming over 2,000 Olympic and Paralympic athletes on board from Team GB, Team Belgium, Team Netherlands, and Team Germany.

In addition, between July and September, two million customers are travelling to the Games via Eurostar’s high-speed service.

For this route, train travel is deemed the most sustainable mode of travel. According to a study by EcoRes, the athletes and staff travelling to Paris with Eurostar will be reducing their CO2 emissions by up to 96% compared to air or coach travel.

Eurostar CEO Gwendoline Cazenave said:

“We are thrilled Team GB decided to travel with Eurostar to bring home their Olympic medals. The Golden train was perfect for athletes to travel in comfort and sustainable style while continuing the party a few hours after the closing ceremony. Rendez vous in a few days for Paralympics.

“As the greenest way to travel between the UK and the continent, Eurostar is proud to support Team GB's sustainability efforts. Our athletes can celebrate their success while also making an eco-friendly journey home.”

By using this homecoming to educate passengers on the environmental benefits of high-speed rail, Eurostar hopes to aid its target of carrying 30 million passengers a year by 2030.
