The European Railway Agency (ERA) has been commissioned by the European Commission to conduct a study on the feasibility of satellite communications as part of an integrated radio communication architecture with other radio communication networks on railways.

The study will be submitted in 2018, has a budget of €60,000, and will form part of the 4th Railway Package, an initiative intended to increase the competitiveness of Europe’s railways.

The ERA is a not for profit organisation dedicated to the construction of a modern, integrated and sae railway throughout Europe. It is also an authority on ERTMS (European Traffic Management System).
