Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has contracted Advanced Power Dynamics (APD), a Canadian company, to overhaul and upgrade 180 freight locomotives.
The agreement covers Henschel and AdTranz locomotive types and was formalised during the TransMEA 2025 Exhibition in Cairo.

The signing took place in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Industry and Trade, the Chairman of ENR, and representatives of the Canadian government, including Ambassador Ulric Shannon and Senior Trade Officer Joseph Tadros. Their attendance reflects the current cooperation between Egypt and Canada on industrial and rail projects.
Under the programme, APD will manage the overhaul work in coordination with ENR. The initiative supports the Ministry of Transport’s localisation plans and contributes to ongoing efforts to modernise Egypt’s freight transport infrastructure.
The contract represents a further step in the development of Egypt’s freight locomotive capability and adds to the growing network of international industrial partnerships in the country’s rail sector.
