The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has announced that the DC Streetcar service will end on 31 March 2026, ceasing operation entirely.
Regular users of the service have been advised to plan and explore alternative travel options, such as WMATA’s D20 bus.
In order to ease the transition of services; DDOT has begun coordinating with WMATA Metrobus to provide suitable alternatives for current riders throughout the H Street Corridor.
From 4 January 2026, a number of trips will be adjusted in order to begin the winding down of the service, including:
- The elimination of a Sunday service
- Revised operating hours with 20-minute headways (Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM & Saturday: 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM)
First introduced in 2016; the DC Streetcar service is part of once-mooted 5 line transport network serving Washington DC, however the current line was the only one to be developed and put into operation. The service runs along a 2.2-mile (3.5 km) line in mixed traffic along H Street and Benning Road in the city’s Northeast quadrant.
