CZ LOKO Wins Contract to Supply Locomotives to PKP Intercity

Czech rolling stock company CZ LOKO has won a contract with PKP Intercity (Poland) to supply ten EffiShunter 300 locomotives over the next two years.

CZ LOKO participated in a tender for the Polish national carrier that lasted into 2021 and that CZ LOKO described as “very demanding”. The locomotives will mainly be used for light shunting operations at depots and parking stations. They will be deployed at key railway junctions such as Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Krakow and Katowice. CZ LOKO will deliver the first locomotive in 1.5 years, and complete the order in 2 years.

Roman Stríž, Chairperson of the Board of the subsidiary CZ LOKO Polska, said:

“In the past, CZ LOKO has been active in Poland mainly in the field of repairs. But this is now changing and large investments are being made in the purchase of new locomotives. The delivery of 10 EffiShunters is a clear proof of this and follows on the delivery for the Warsaw Metro.”

EffiShunter 300

The EffiShunter 300 is a light two-axle locomotive. It has been designed to be inexpensive to both manufacture and operate. Because of its size and interoperability, it can also run on special metro lines. The EffiShunter 300 has a CAT C13 diesel engine, which meets EU Stage V emission standards – the most stringent stage. The locomotives in this order will also be fitted with the Polish national train control system SHP. PKP Intercity has requested that the driver’s cabs be fitted with a loudspeaker function.

Roman Stríž:

“Poland is a market with great prospects for us. The Polish economy is the largest economy in Central Europe and has grown significantly in recent years. The locomotive park is undergoing a major renovation and will develop dynamically in the coming years. However, we are also aware of strong local competition and, from this point of view, we are not against cooperation with Polish entities.”

CZ LOKO believes its EffiShunter 1000 and DualShunter 2000 locomotives would also be perfectly suited to the Polish market.
