CrossCountry has launched its new 2025 Sustainability Strategy, a 10-year plan which outlines a number of goals to make rail travel more inclusive, resilient and low-carbon.

The plan is built around three core elements – People, Places and Planet – and is supported by 11 modules defining where CrossCountry can make the biggest impact.

The plan focuses on three pillars – People, Places & Planet

With the three key values; CrossCountry aims to create a more diverse, inclusive workforce, support communities through cleaner air, restored habits and climate-resilient services, and reduce its carbon emissions, waste and water.

The long-distance operator’s science-based targets have also been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

CrossCountry is now aiming to cut direct emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 63% by 2035.

CrossCountry’s Head of Strategy, Thomas Raynor, said:

Aligning our operations with the latest climate science - while embedding social value and resilience into everything we do - means we’re building a railway that’s fit for the future.

Our 2025 Sustainability Strategy is a commitment to long-term change. It’s about making rail the natural choice for greener long-distance travel across Great Britain, while creating lasting value for the communities we serve. This is a strategy built not just for today, but for the next decade and beyond.
