CAF, in a consortium with the Brazilian civil works companies, CR Almeida and Santa Barbara (Consorcio VLT Cuiabá), has signed a turnkey contract for the construction of the civil work, electromechanical system and the supply of 40 units of 7 modules of the new tram for the metropolitain region of Cuiabá, capital of the state of Mato Grosso in Brazil.

First Turnkey Tram System in Latin America for 2014 World Cup

This work and supply is an important strategic contract as it is the first turnkey tram system in Latin America, and as it is an important committment to the development of passenger transport in Cuiabá, one of the hosts to the 2014 football World Cup.

The contract was signed with the Mato Grosso State Government via the Extraordinary Secretariat of the 2014 World Cup (SECOPA) with a total value of 1,477 million Reals (590 million Euros), of which 540 million Reals (216 million Euros) correspond to CAF.

The Urbos platform trams have been contracted, which have been developed by CAF over the last few years. This is a state-of-the-art unit with 100% low floor, providing a service for 28 kilometres, lon two lines of the Metropolitan Area of Cuiaba. This new contract strengthens CAF’s presence in Brazil, where they own a plant in Hortolandia (State of Sao Paulo).
