Canadian Pacific Orders 30 Upgraded EMD SD70ACU Locomotives from Progress Rail

Progress Rail, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., has announced that Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CP) has ordered  30 upgraded EMD SD70ACU (modernised SD90MACs) locomotives from it. The freight locomotives will be used by CP for heavy haulage.

Marty Haycraft, Executive Vice President of Rolling Stock at Progress Rail, said:

“We are pleased Canadian Pacific chose to modernize their fleet with our EMD SD70ACU locomotives, which are known for their proven technology, overall cost effectiveness and ability to serve as a sustainable product operating on the mainline.”

Progress Rail will fit the upgrades at its facilities in Mayfield, Kentucky, and Muncie, Indiana. The units will be fitted with all new traction control systems and cabs, which adhere to the latest industry safety standards. The EMD 710 engines and other major components will be remanufactured by the company for optimal performance and reliability.

The locomotives will be delivered to CP in 2019.
