In Ontario, Metrolinx has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT) civil and utilities contract.
This RFQ marks the first step in the procurement process for selecting the team responsible for initial project components, including utilities, roads, and structures.
The Hamilton LRT project’s procurement will proceed in multiple work packages, beginning with this initial RFQ focused on civil works.
Metrolinx will evaluate submissions from teams with the required experience and financial strength to undertake a project of this scale. Qualified teams will then be invited to submit detailed proposals in response to a forthcoming Request for Proposals (RFP).
Once selected, the chosen team will enter an Alliance Development Phase (ADA) with Metrolinx to collaborate on detailed designs, schedules, and cost plans. The alliance model, a collaborative contract structure, allows both owners and non-owners to share delivery risks and foster effective problem-solving.
As Metrolinx moves forward with the Hamilton LRT, the 14-kilometre line promises a fast, convenient transit link running through Hamilton’s downtown, connecting Eastgate to McMaster University and key points in between.
The company has also released renderings of the proposed Parkdale Avenue stop and King Street East grade separation.
The Parkdale Avenue stop will be an at-grade, open-air station located near key community amenities such as Parkdale Park and Pat Quinn Arena, with connections to HSR buses. Meanwhile, the King Street East underpass is designed to allow light rail vehicles to travel seamlessly under the existing CPKC rail line, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted service.
