The Government of Ontario and Metrolinx have issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) contract for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension project in the Greater Toronto Area.
This extension will expand the Eglinton Crosstown LRT line by 9.2 kilometres, linking Scarborough to Mississauga.
The SRS contract covers the design and construction of seven new stations. It also includes track installation, the fitting of tunnels and a 1.5-kilometre elevated guideway with signals, and the installation of critical communication and support systems.
Furthermore, the contract includes utility work and road modifications along Eglinton Avenue West and changes at Mount Dennis Station to connect the extension to the existing LRT service.

After evaluating the proposals, Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario will choose a partner for an 18-month development phase to refine the project design, costs, and schedule. They will then have the option to sign a final agreement with the chosen proponent.
Progress on the project is already visible, with the completion of the 6.3-kilometre tunnels for the western underground segment. The twin tunnel boring machines, Rexy and Renny, have finished their work from Renforth Drive in Mississauga to Scarlett Road in Etobicoke.
Preparations for constructing the elevated portion of the line and the second tunnelled section between Mount Dennis Station and the elevated guideway are also underway.
Once completed, the extension will bring transit closer to 37,500 more people and create access to 23,600 additional jobs, helping to connect communities and unlock economic opportunities across the region.
