New York’s ‘Brightliners’ are set to embark on their final maintenance work prior to being replaced in 2014.

The iconic R32 subway cars, which currently run on the A and C lines, are being replaced by a pristine fleet of R179 cars which will arrive in 2014.

Ensure passenger comfort and reliability

The project, which is expected to cost around $25 million, will ensure passenger comfort and service reliability until the R179 fleet arrives.

Major car components and systems will be upgraded on the cars which were first introduced in 1964 by New York City Transit.

Work is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
