Amtrak has won a contract to operate commuter rail services on Southern California’s Metrolink network from 1 January 2021 to 30 June 2025.

Amtrak is also the incumbent operator on the network. It will provide and manage engineers and conductors for the Metrolink trains. There were five bids in total for this contact.

Stephen Gardner, President, Amtrak, said:

“We are honored to continue serving Metrolink and the communities and residents of Southern California. We look forward to building upon our many years of partnership and helping the agency achieve its bold vision of growth and improvement.”

The Metrolink network consists of seven lines that run Bombardier bi-level coaches as well as Hyundai Rotem bi-level cars, hauled by locomotives. The network covers Ventura County, Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, Orange Country, Riverside County and San Diego Country.
