Alstom and Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG (SWEG) have signed a framework agreement that will see Alstom provide and maintain locomotives from its rental pool for SWEG for a period of eight years. The full-service lease includes a 24-hour on-call and mobile service.
The contract stipulates that during 2021, SWEG can gradually increase the number of locomotives serviced by Alstom from four to six.
Alstom will take over the maintenance of the locomotives at its location in Waibstadt, enabling a service in the vicinity of the SWEG network in Baden-Württemberg.
Initially, a Class 203.1 locomotive in Gammertingen and a Class 1002 Prima H3 hybrid shunting locomotive in Offenburg will be used in SWEG freight traffic.
Equipped with Alstom’s condition-based maintenance solution TrainTracer, the Prima H3 offers maintenance cost savings of up to 14 percent. Prima locomotives also benefit from a central service competence centre that offers first-class customer support at all times.
“This cooperation with Alstom enables us to modernise our freight locomotive fleet. In addition, we can now develop the business field of single wagon transport ... more consistently by being able to present our customers with attractive offers for freight transport by rail through the use of modern locomotives. (Our) already very successful cooperation with Alstom in passenger transport is now being continued in freight transport.”
With a total of four service locations in Germany, Alstom has a strong network for the maintenance of locomotives.
“We are very pleased to be able to expand our long-standing and positive cooperation with SWEG. The provision and maintenance of the locomotives strengthens our service location in Waibstadt. Thanks to SWEG's trust, we can further expand our team, for example with new training positions for rail vehicle technicians.”
