Alstom Presents its New CLever Cantilever for the UK Rail Network

Alstom announced the launch of its new CLever cantilever for the UK rail network at Railtex, the international exhibition of rail equipment, systems and services in Birmingham. This follows approval of the new electrification system for UK use by Network Rail.

Alstom’s presentation at the 2017 Railtex event in Birmingham means that the UK network can begin to benefit from this new system immediately.

CLever Cantilever

CLever is an innovative cantilever for main-line railway which offers high adjustability, easy installation and maintenance. CLever cantilever is designed for 25 kV railway electrification and delivers reliable performance for speeds up to 300 km/h. It is compatible with Network Rail’s Series 2 and Master Series range of electrification equipment, and its launch in the UK follows full product acceptance by Network Rail for use on UK infrastructure.

CLever cantilever is lightweight, has a minimal part count, and is easily installed. As such, it is safer to manually handle, has minimal maintenance requirements, is more affordable over its lifecycle and is quicker to install than conventional processes.

Steve Cox, Engineering and Technical Director, Alstom UK & Ireland, said:

“We are tremendously excited to be able to launch CLever cantilever for the UK network, which is part of Alstom’s range of innovative rail solutions. This solution is more affordable and safer than conventional ones. With electrification continuing to be a priority for the UK network, CLever’s high adjustability, easy installation, reduced weight and easy maintenance, mean it can play an important role in achieving our electrification targets.”
