Alstom has celebrated the successful delivery of the design, supply, installation and testing and commissioning of telecommunications, signalling and control systems enabling passenger service for the opening of the third stage of the Gold Coast Light Rail.
All solutions connect to an enhanced control system, which has been deployed within the upgraded Operational Control Centre (OCC), which in turn is now supported by a new Disaster Recovery Centre (DRC).

The stage 3 opening adds 6.7km of track, increasing the total network length to 27km and enabling travel between Helensvale through to Burleigh Heads and opening the southern section of the Gold Coast to light rail services. Additionally, eight new stations have also opened, bringing the total of to 27.
A set of 23 trams are now in operation on the network, all of which have been developed and built in Alstom’s site in Vienna, Austria, with fleet maintenance delivered by Alstom on the Gold Coast.
Working as a long-term partner to GoldlinQ, the delivery consortium for Gold Coast Light Rail, Alstom has delivered the entire light rail fleet and key rail systems to support the network alignment. Alstom also delivers fleet maintenance, with each tram travelling more than 100,000km each year.
One of Australia’s busiest light rail routes, the line carries millions of passengers and tourists each year, and the opening of the third stage brings the current network extension to its conclusion.
