Transport for London (TfL) has contracted Dr. Sauer & Partners and Arup to complete a Bakerloo Line Extension feasibility study.
This project would extend the London Underground’s Bakerloo line to improve transport connections in southeast London.
In the first phase, the line would be extended to Lewisham via the Old Kent Road and New Cross Gate. TfL is also considering a second phase of the extension beyond Lewisham to Hayes and Beckenham Junction.
This second phase would involve converting the National Rail line via Catford to Hayes to support London Underground operation.
With these recent contracts, TfL is procuring design services and construction knowledge for five packages of tunnelling works on the proposed extension.
The feasibility studies will relate to four specific locations: Lambeth North, Elephant & Castle, Lewisham station and Lewisham Way shaft. The fifth package will then look at the route-wide construction of cross-passages between the two running tunnels.
