All 45 trains set to operate on the Sydney Metro City & Southwest line later this year have now completed at least one return journey between Tallawong and Sydenham at operational speed.
This puts the programme on track to launch metro services through the Sydney CBD.

During testing, each train stopped at every station on the 51-kilometre journey to ensure the train and platform screen doors performed as designed.
Passenger help points and information displays onboard the trains were also tested during this process.

Meanwhile, the performance of each train was monitored closely to assess how the vehicles, signalling and station systems worked together, while also functioning alongside the Metro North West Line and the new City section.
This rigorous testing and commissioning programme started in April 2023. So far, more than 8,700 hours of a total 11,000 hours of required testing have been completed.

Preparations are now underway for the next major phase of testing. This will involve trial running, which is set to begin in the coming months.
The trial runs will see network operator, Metro Trains Sydney run a series of timetabled operational tests. This will be the last stage of testing before the new metro line is launched.
