ILSA has begun technical testing of the Frecciarossa 1000 on the railway line between Madrid and Barcelona in Spain.
The ILSA consortium is comprised of Trenitalia and Air Nostrum. It was selected by Adif to be the first private operator with access to the Spanish rail market.
The consortium is now carrying out the last phase of testing before the final approval of the high-speed train on the Iberian railway.
The high-speed service will be operated by iryo and will initially connect Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Valencia, Alicante and Zaragoza.
The new Frecciarossa 1000 units have been built by Hitachi in Italian plants.
Throughout the project, Trenitalia will share its knowledge of operating the Frecciarossa in Italy for over 10 years with the aim of encouraging more people to travel by train in Spain.
