Safety Control Systems for Track Maintenance Machines

GKD Technologies design, develop and produce safety control systems for track maintenance machines and excavators. GKD was established in 1992 to promote the use of, and design of, innovative electronic safety systems for construction machinery. They are now the market leader in the supply of Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) electronic safety systems to operators across the UK rail network also selling internationally via the company’s distribution and dealer network.

The GKD SensorSafe range includes height limiters, slew limiters and load limiters for excavators. Their leading rated capacity indicator, the 3RCi has recently been upgraded to meet the growing safety requirements of the rail industry. The 3RCi+ has been developed with the newest technology using the GKD team’s 20 years of experience in the rail industry.

A dedicated production team build, test and dispatch all of the GKD products from their head office in the UK to customers across the world.

3RCi+ Road Rail Rated Capacity Indicator

The 3RCi+ is the leading Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) rated capacity indicator in the UK and is highly sought after across the world. The sophisticated system monitors the RRV’s load status and compares it to the machine’s true lift capacity in its state of gradient, rail cant and axle lock configurations. The system will then cut the machine hydraulics if it reaches an unsafe position and will only allow movement in to a safe state. This allows RRV operator to use their machine to its maximum potential, safely.

There is a touchscreen graphical display for inside the operator cab where the operator can see all of the details about the machine and its capabilities in its current position. The display is water resistant with IP64 rating. An ambient light sensor has been included to control the screens brightness automatically.

3RCi+ SpaceGuard Road Rail Rated Capacity Indicator

The additional SpaceGuard feature for the 3RCi+ has dual sensing for extra accuracy and protects against system sensor malfunction, inconsistencies and electronic failures. The SpaceGuard feature certifies the RRV to work adjacent line open and under live overhead wires, increasing productivity by allowing work to be carried out without the need for adjacent line closure.

New gyro tilt sensors included in the SpaceGuard system provide a true clean angle of the excavator boom, even in the presence of high shock, acceleration and vibration.

Height Limiters for Road Rail Vehicles

Simple, accurate, cost effective height limiting system suitable for self-installation. 1HLi-R will protect workers from overhead danger when it is difficult to judge the actual height of the machine or the position of the booms from the cab.
This road rail vehicle height limiting system monitors the angle of a single boom and provides a motion cut signal output when the angle is exceeded. 1HLi-R also utilises dual sensing where the system identifies any mismatch between the two sensors to increase the reliability and safety when working on rail.

Slew Limiters for Road Rail Vehicles

The 1SL motion control system is a simple, cost effective slew limiting solution designed for safety and prevent machine damage when operating in confined spaces.

The 1SL allows the machine operator to quickly and easily set left and right slew limits from the operator station, which then restricts the machine to working within the permitted slew sector.

Customer Support and Service

GKD Technologies prides itself on providing the best support to their customers. With over twenty years of experience working in partnership with the rail industry, they understand the pressures on their customers. A specialist service and support team are on hand to provide all their customers with front line support.
