The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has selected Stantec to lead the preliminary and final design for key elements of the Newark AirTrain Replacement Program.
This 2 billion USD project aims to increase public transit access and connectivity for underserved communities in Northern New Jersey.
It will also promote increased adoption of public transportation to and from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Under this newly awarded contract, Stantec will lead the design of three key elements for the project:
The AirTrain Newark carries an average of 33,000 passengers per day or 12 million passengers per year.
It provides access to Newark Liberty International Airport Station and connects customers and employees between terminals, parking lots, and rental car facilities.
The current AirTrain Newark has reached the end of its useful life and will therefore be replaced with a new system to meet increasing passenger demands.
“Our transit design solutions will balance an efficient and welcoming rider experience with sustainable, durable facilities that are adaptable to EWR’s evolving needs. We understand the need to provide safe, scalable, and inclusive services to make transit more accessible to all users as they navigate this busy system.”
Stantec’s scope in this project will include structural design, building design, architecture, utilities, roadways, and maintenance and protection of traffic.
