Stadler has delivered its 100th EURODUAL locomotive to European Loc Pool (ELP), marking a production milestone for the dual-mode locomotive platform.

The handover took place at the beginning of September 2025, with the unit entering service with Havelländische Eisenbahn AG (HVLE).

The locomotive delivery underlines the ongoing cooperation between Stadler, ELP and HVLE. HVLE was the first operator to introduce the EURODUAL, having signed an initial order for ten units in 2017.

ELP began its framework agreement with Stadler in May 2019 and has since built up a fleet of hybrid locomotives, including EURODUAL and EURO9000 models. The company provides leasing services that enable operators to use dual-mode locomotives across electrified and non-electrified networks.

Willem Goosen, CEO of ELP said:

The 100th locomotive is far more than just a number for us, it represents the trust our customers place in us and the strength of our partnerships. Being able to celebrate this milestone together with HVLE fills us with great pleasure and pride.

The EURODUAL combines electric and diesel traction, allowing it to operate on main lines with overhead wires as well as on routes without electrification. It is equipped with 6.2 MW electric power and a 2.8 MW diesel engine, producing a tractive effort of up to 500 kN and a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The locomotives also incorporate European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling, three-axle bogies, and remote monitoring features designed to support predictive maintenance.

The 100th unit will be operated by HVLE, continuing the company’s role in demonstrating the use of dual-mode traction in freight operations.

Iñigo Parra, CEO of Stadler Valencia said:

With this 100th EURODUAL now entering service under ELP’s lease and HVLE’s operation, the concept has truly proven its worth. The locomotive has become the benchmark for dual-mode traction across Europe. We’re grateful for the vision and trust of our partners at ELP and HVLE in making dual-mode traction a widely adopted solution.
