ST Engineering has announced that its Urban Solutions business has secured a new 840 million USD turnkey rail services contract for the Taoyuan MRT Brown Line in Taiwan.

Awarded by the Taoyuan City Government in July 2026 as part of a consortium with Hyundai Rotem, the project will see ST Engineering’s role in the Taiwan rail network expand beyond its work over the past three decades.

The contract will involve ST Engineering leading overall project management and systems integration for the project, as well as the provision of rail electronics solutions including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), communications system, automatic fare collection system and platform screen doors.

Working closely with partners, ST Engineering will also be responsible for the overall integration and delivery of key project components, including the signalling system, track works and bulk substation building civil works, whilst Hyundai Rotem will provide the rolling stock and power supply system.

Comprising a total of seven stations, the 11.38km Taoyuan MRT Brown Line will aim to provide quick and direct rail connections between Taoyuan City and the Greater Taipei area in an effort to improve connectivity and reduce travel time for commuters. Project execution is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026 and will be delivered over eight years.

Gareth Tang, President, Urban Solutions, ST Engineering, said:

Transport agencies are increasingly seeking trusted partners who can seamlessly integrate technologies and systems while managing large-scale project delivery. This contract reflects our customer’s confidence in our ability to deliver large-scale rail infrastructure projects, drawing on decades of experience in delivering major rail projects in Taiwan and around the world.

We look forward to supporting the continued expansion of Taoyuan's rail network, and delivering a world-class metro system that enhances accessibility for local communities.
