Last month; Siemens Mobility and Danish operator Midtjyske Jernbaner celebrated the inauguration of the country’s very first battery-powered trains.
A fleet of seven Mireo Plus B trains have now entered service on the Holstebro-Skjern and Vemb-Lemvig-Thyborøn lines, replacing the old diesel fleet.

The new two-car trainsets offer seats for up to 127 passengers, top speeds of 140 km/h and a battery-powered range of roughly 80 kilometres. They feature a battery-hybrid drive and are capable of being charged via a 25kV overhead line in electrified sections.
On non-electrified routes, batteries power the train, enabling both CO2-emission-free and low-noise operation. The units are also equipped with Wi-Fi and passenger information systems.
The initial order was placed in 2022, and marked the first acquisition request for Mireo Plus B trains outside of Germany.
Thomas Graetz, Head of Commuter and Regional Trains at Siemens Mobility said:The launch of our Mireo Plus B trains in Denmark is a landmark achievement. It not only marks the first time our battery-powered trains will operate outside of Germany but also demonstrates how our technology provides a sustainable and efficient solution for non-electrified routes.
We are proud to partner with Midtjyske Jernbaner to drive the green transformation of the Danish rail system and offer passengers a quiet, comfortable, and emission-free travel experience.
