Alstom has been awarded a new 20 million (GBP) contract by Eversholt Rail to overhaul nearly 400 bogies for Southeastern’s Class 465 fleet.

The project itself covers up to 398 power bogies across 97 four-car units, all of which are set to undergo a full mileage-based overhaul at Alstom’s Crewe Works site over a course of two years.

The scope of the overhaul includes wheel and traction motor replacement, paint removal and new paint application, the replacement of specific bogie components, gearbox overhaul, axle inspection and a full overhaul of the vehicle electrics, as well as testing of traction packages.

Based at Southeastern’s Slade Green depot in South East London; the Class 465 fleet’s bogies will be transported to Alstom’s site in Crewe weekly when the project commences in 2026.

The contract is set to support 50 skilled roles at Alstom’s Cheshire facility.

Mark Derbyshire, Crewe Works General Manager at Alstom, said:

This award is a strong vote of confidence in Crewe’s capability and in the expertise of our people. Our Centre of Excellence will deliver a safe, high‑quality overhaul of almost 400 Networker bogies for the South East of England while sustaining skilled jobs in the North.

It’s a great example of how Alstom’s investment and Crewe’s heritage are helping keep passengers moving reliably across the country every day.
