Rizzani De Eccher Consortium to Construct Venice Airport Rail Connection

A consortium led by Rizzani De Eccher has been chosen to construct a rail connection between the Mestre-Trieste line and Venice Marco Polo airport in Italy.

The goal is to complete this before the start of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Venice Airport Railway
In 2021, Venice Airport served around 3.5 million passengers

Valued at over 428 million EUR (443.43m USD), the contract was awarded by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), part of the FS Italiane Group, to support its strategy to upgrade rail connections with airports, promote intermodality and relaunch tourism.

Works will include the construction of a new eight-kilometre double-track railway line, 3.4 kilometres of which will be made up of tunnels.

The connection will start from the Mestre-Trieste line, running alongside the motorway link for the airport and arriving into a new underground through station with two tracks connected to the airport terminal.

At the station exit, a single track will rejoin the surface section, allowing for reduced stationing times in the terminal and ensuring greater capacity for both regional and high-speed trains.
