The Government of Ontario has completed construction upgrades at West Harbour GO Station in Hamilton, improving travel times and increasing service options for passengers on the Lakeshore West corridor.
The project is part of a broader plan to enhance GO Transit across the Greater Golden Horseshoe region.

Previously, trains using West Harbour GO Station operated on a dead-end track, requiring time-consuming reversing manoeuvres. With the station now directly connected to the main Lakeshore West rail line, services between Toronto, Hamilton, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls are expected to become more efficient. The upgrade is projected to save commuters from Niagara Falls and St. Catharines approximately 15 minutes per roundtrip.
In addition to time savings, all trains running to and from Niagara Falls—including those operating on weekends and during off-peak hours—will now stop at West Harbour GO Station. This adjustment increases accessibility for passengers travelling between the Niagara Region and Hamilton, with four times as many trip options for commuters.
Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation said:As we work to expand GO Service across the region, the completion of West Harbour Station means faster, more convenient and more frequent GO train options with four times as many trips for commuters travelling between Hamilton and Niagara Falls. Our government is making historic investments to expand transit and build for the future, while creating good paying jobs that protect Ontario workers during this time of economic uncertainty.
The newly completed infrastructure also supports future service expansion. The upgraded track will accommodate trains to and from the planned Confederation GO Station in east Hamilton, which aims to better connect rail passengers with local transit services such as the Hamilton Street Railway.
The Lakeshore West GO schedule will be updated in the coming weeks following the completion of track testing. Once implemented, the schedule will reflect the new connection and enhanced service levels through West Harbour GO.
The West Harbour upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to improve regional transit infrastructure and support increasing demand for public transport across southern Ontario.
