The Ontario government has announced the completion of construction at Confederation GO Station in Hamilton.

This project is part of a wider programme to expand train services across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The station will open for passenger service on 27 October 2025, with all existing Niagara Falls trains scheduled to stop there.

The new Confederation GO Station

Confederation GO Station is located near the Queen Elizabeth Way and Centennial Parkway North in Hamilton.

The new station includes a fully accessible platform with canopies, bicycle racks, a designated pick-up and drop-off area, and 148 parking spaces. Confederation GO has been serving as a stop for GO bus routes 12 and 11 since 2019 and 2021 respectively.

Confederation GO Station forms part of the Niagara Extension project, which aims to increase rail services to Hamilton and the Niagara Region. The province has projected that the new stop will generate nearly half a million additional rides each year.

Andrea Horwath, Mayor of Hamilton said:

Confederation GO Station is about more than just building a station — it’s about building connections. For Hamiltonians, it means shorter commutes, affordable and sustainable travel, and better access to work, school and healthcare. For visitors, it means easier access to discover everything that makes Hamilton such a vibrant community. I want to thank Premier Ford, Minister Sarkaria and Minister Lumsden for working with the City of Hamilton to expand transit access and create new opportunities across our region.

In addition to the new Hamilton station, the province is introducing service changes across the GO network from 27 October. These include:

  • Extension of some Lakeshore West trips to Confederation GO from West Harbour GO
  • 13 weekday and 15 weekend trips scheduled to serve Confederation GO Station
  • Six weekday trips extended from Oakville to Appleby GO
  • Additional peak-period weekday services on the Lakeshore East (Oshawa and Whitby), Barrie (Aurora), and Stouffville (Unionville) lines.

Earlier this year, the province completed upgrades at West Harbour GO Station in Hamilton, reducing journey times by around 15 minutes per round trip for passengers travelling from Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.
