ÖBB has celebrated the launch of the new generation Nightjet, which departed on its maiden voyage along the Vienna-Zurich route on 14 June.
To mark the launch, the Nightjet was given a full send-off at Vienna’s main train station, with the start of service bringing the total of ÖBB new generation night trains in operation to nine.

Comprised of two seating cars (driving car & multi-purpose car), three couchette cars and two sleeping cars; the seven-car Nightjet features a total capacity of 254 seats per trainset.
The train offers six bicycle spaces, additional space for luggage, strollers and sports equipment, as well as improved Wi-Fi, modern passenger information systems and both USB & inductive charging points.
All compartments are equipped with an electronic access system using NFC cards, with all carriages utilising video surveillance to enhance overall security.
Sabine Stock, Member of the Management Board of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG, said:With the new generation Nightjet, we are raising comfort and travel quality in night train travel to a new level. More privacy and modern amenities make the connection to Zurich an attractive alternative to air travel.
By the end of the year, we will have 24 new Nightjets in our long-distance fleet , thus responding to the increasing demand for comfortable and sustainable travel options.
