Network Rail has appointed Rob Morton as its new Route Services Managing Director.
He has now begun a handover process with the outgoing Route Services Managing Director Susan Cooklin, who’s leaving Network Rail after 16 years.
Route services supplies critical services for Network Rail’s routes and regions that are best provided from a national team.
This includes business and technical services, commercial and procurement, engineering services, IT services, telecoms, supply chain operations, finance and business support and HR.
Before joining Network Rail as Supply Chain Director back in 2017, Morton worked in the private sector for companies including Centrica and LogicaCMG.
In the first five years working for Network Rail, he’s not only spearheaded the organisation’s relationships and commercial arrangements with suppliers but also led a supply chain cost reduction programme that saved 330 million GBP (394.59m euros | 445.95m USD).
He has also improved the organisation’s logistics capability to levels comparable with leading retail and manufacturing operations.
“I'm delighted to be succeeding Susan as Managing Director of Route Services and can’t wait to get started.
“While we’re facing some challenges as we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s an exciting time to be working in the rail industry.
“The Route Services function is a major part of Network Rail and has an important role to play in creating a more reliable and efficient railway.
“I look forward to playing my part in delivering that as we all work towards a Great British Railway.”
