Mobile phone tickets are being trailed across 86 stations in two separate areas of Northern England. Multiple train operators are trying this new ticketing method.

m-Ticketing in Northern England

CrossCountry, First TransPennine Express, Northern, Virgin Trains or Virgin Trains East Coast services are trying this new service, allowing passengers to travel within the pilot area. The tickets available include flexible walk-up standard, first class anytime, off-peak fares, with the same price, validity and terms and conditions of a paper ticket.

Passengers can buy these m-Tickets through the mobile apps of the participating operators or through TheTrainline.com. Before boarding, the ticket must be activated so that it is ready for inspection at station datelines or by on-train staff.
