Major construction works have been completed on the southern section of the new Riga Central Station building in Latvia, including the adjacent public square and passenger platforms.
Construction company BERERIX has completed the planned major works, with a FIDIC Engineer supervising the project and issuing a Certificate of Substantial Completion to BERERIX and the client, Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas.

The completed works include the station’s facade and roof glazing, along with most decorative and functional elements. Construction and landscaping of the passenger platforms and paving and landscaping of the adjacent public square have also been completed.
Passenger access infrastructure and finishing works were also included in the programme.

Under the contract, the major works were scheduled for completion by 31 August 2026. BERERIX will continue minor landscaping and finishing works in the station building, on the platforms and in the adjacent public square until the end of 2026.
The completed section forms part of the wider Rail Baltica development at Riga Central Station. The station is being developed as part of the Rail Baltica railway project, which will connect the Baltic states with the European standard-gauge rail network.

The wider railway hub remains dependent on the completion of other elements of the project, including the railway tracks, before the infrastructure can operate as an integrated facility.
The southern section is expected to be handed over to Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas following completion of the remaining works.

Guntis Āboltiņš-Āboliņš, Chief Executive Officer of the BERERIX consortium said:BERERIX has another four months, until the end of this year, to complete minor landscaping and finishing works in the building, the public square and on the platforms. We are already well ahead of schedule, and I have no doubt that we will complete the works on time and that even the as-yet unknown autumn and winter weather conditions will not affect our progress.
Today, we are handing over infrastructure whose full operation also depends on the completion of other parts of the project, such as the railway tracks. This infrastructure will gain its true value not when we finish building its individual components, but when they begin operating together.
