Three of India’s busiest railway stations—New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad—are undergoing significant redevelopment as part of an initiative to modernise the country’s rail infrastructure.
In the past eight months, SYSTRA India has secured contracts for the redevelopment of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Ahmedabad Station, and New Delhi Railway Station.

For the redevelopment of Mumbai’s Chaatrapati Shivaji Rail Station and Ahmedabad Station, SYSTRA has been contracted in consortium with Mace.
Hari Somalraju, Managing Director, SYSTRA India said:With three consecutive successes serving the three main railway stations in the country, SYSTRA India confirms its leadership and enriches its references. Thanks to these projects, we are developing in a new market segment with our historical customers, serving daily mobility.
The scope of work includes project management consultancy services, such as:
- Reviewing and finalising technical studies
- Supervising construction activities
- Ensuring quality and safety standards
- Coordinating across multiple stakeholders
- Testing and commissioning new facilities
The most recent contract, awarded in late 2024 by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), focuses on New Delhi Railway Station, one of the country’s busiest hubs.
New Delhi Railway Station, a critical node in India’s northern rail network, serves over 500,000 passengers daily across its 15 platforms. The redevelopment plan includes improved parking facilities, better connections to buses and nearby areas via pedestrian bridges, redesigned road networks, and a dedicated concourse for airport-bound passengers.

The upgrades aim to increase capacity, enhance the passenger experience, and position the station as a commercial and transit hub.
This project is part of a nationwide initiative to modernise railway infrastructure, including the introduction of high-speed rail services by 2040.
Meanwhile, at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus plans include modernising the historic station to meet current passenger needs. At Ahmedabad Station, the redevelopment focuses on infrastructure upgrades and enhanced facilities.
