Network Rail plan to close the level crossing at Glanmor Road, Llanelli, in order for essential works to be carried out. The work, which is set to commence on October 27th, has raised concerns with residents, particularly parents with children at the nearby Copperworks School.

Crossing Out Of Use

The main concern is that the crossing will be out–of-use for over five weeks, causing disruption on one of the main walking routes to and from the school.

Speaking about the disruption, local councillor Jeff Owen said,

“We did raise concerns about the length of time the crossing would be closed. They said they would make provisions for foot access during this time”.

Red Light Enforcement Cameras

The work, which will improve reliability and safety at the crossing, will see barriers and lights being modernised as well as the installation of Home Office approved red light enforcement cameras.

Network Rail confirmed that the bulk of improvements will take place throughout the night and on weekends to ensure minimal disruption to services.
