GEST, a subsidiary of RATP Dev, has commenced operations on the newly extended T2 tramway line in Florence, connecting Peretola Airport with San Marco Square.

The T2 line, which runs approximately 800 services per day, now features six additional stops and spans an extra 5 kilometres.

Construction on this new route commenced on 25 January.

In 2024, the line transported 11.5 million passengers, and the extension is now projected to add more than 3.4 million additional passengers annually.

GEST CEO Denis Ratto said:

This is yet another step in the development of mobility in Florence. The tram network is growing, and with the opening of this new extension, the tram service will reach the historic city centre from the airport in just 35 minutes. To ensure the success of this project, we initiated the fourth edition of the Accademia program, trained and hired 14 new drivers, and hired 3 maintenance workers and 2 controllers.

In addition to managing the T1 and T2 lines, GEST will operate the upcoming T3 tramway line, which will connect Libertà to Bagno a Ripoli.
