Italy: FS GROUP Launches Tender for Works on Santomarco Tunnel

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Group) has launched a tender for the executive design and construction of works on the Santomarco Tunnel as part of the ‘New AV/AC line Salerno – Reggio Calabria’ project.

The tender, which is worth over 1.6 billion EUR, will see the successful party tasked with the creation of a new, 22km double-track High Speed connection between Paola/San Lucido and Cosenza.

The work involves the municipalities of Paola, San Lucido, Rende, Montalto Uffugo, San Vincenzo la Costa and San Fili, in the Province of Cosenza

Of the 22km in total, 17km will be utilised as underground line infrastructure (the Santomarco tunnel itself), with the remaining 5km set to remain outdoors.

Plans also include the creation of a new railway station and all associated crucial infrastructure in Cosenza.

Thus far, the route between Salerno to Reggio Calabria has been divided into multiple stages, with remaining works Lot 1a (Battipaglia-Romagnano), Lot 1b and 1c (Romagnano-Praia) and Lot 2 (Praia-Paola) still underway.
