Alstom has been contracted to supply 70 Traxx Universal locomotives for Mercitalia Rail, part of Polo Logistica FS in Italy.

The agreement is valued at 323 million USD and includes 12 years of comprehensive maintenance services.

It also provides an option for up to 30 additional locomotives and an extension of the maintenance period.

Initial deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2025, with all locomotives produced at Alstom’s Vado Ligure facility in Italy.

The Traxx Universal is a four-axle locomotive platform known for its high energy efficiency and traction capacity.

What’s more, some of the locomotives will feature last mile technology, enabling seamless transitions from electrified to non-electrified lines. This system is particularly beneficial for providing a direct connections between the railway network and terminals or ports.
