Hitachi Rail is participating in the annual NVIDIA GTC, a global event focused on digitisation and artificial intelligence, taking place in San Jose, California from 17 to 21 March 2025.

The conference brings together experts and industry leaders to discuss the impact of AI and digital technologies across various sectors, including transportation.

At the event, Hitachi Rail unveiled HMAX (Hyper Mobility Asset EXpert), a digital asset management platform developed in collaboration with Hitachi Digital and NVIDIA. HMAX is designed to enhance predictive maintenance and optimise rail system performance by leveraging NVIDIA’s AI capabilities to improve monitoring and maintenance operations.

This solution was first launched at InnoTrans 2024.

Hitachi Rail’s HMAX AI solution is presented at NVIDIA GTC 2025

HMAX processes real-time diagnostic data from trains and railway infrastructure using advanced AI algorithms. This enables:

  • Early detection of anomalies and potential faults, reducing service disruptions and improving safety
  • Increased network reliability, benefiting both passengers and operators
  • Automated maintenance scheduling, leading to more efficient resource allocation and cost management

By integrating machine learning and edge computing, HMAX filters and transmits only relevant data to operational control centres, reducing unnecessary information processing. This approach supports the development of more autonomous railway systems, where trains can monitor their condition and recommend maintenance actions without manual inspections.

Hitachi Rail’s commitment to digital transformation has also been reinforced by its recent acquisition of Omnicom from Balfour Beatty, announced in January 2025. Omnicom specialises in digital rail monitoring technologies, and its integration with HMAX will enhance the platform’s capabilities through advanced infrastructure detection, inspection, and monitoring tools.
