The Škoda Group has received an order for up to 30 trams for the western German city of Mainz.

The contract, which consists of an order for a base number of 22 trams with an option for 8 additional units, will be built on the ForCity platform and feature a bi-directional design with pivoting bogies and panoramic windows.

Each unit will measure in at 43.5 metres in length with a track gauge of 1,000mm.

The contract solidifies Škoda’s position as a key supplier of rolling stock within Germany, with the contract for the Mainz units marking a partnership with its ninth public transport operator across 11 cities.

Thus far, Škoda has provided a total of 242 trams across the following German cities:

  • Frankfurt (Oder)
  • Cottbus
  • Brandenburg an der Havel
  • Bonn
  • Chemnitz
  • Schöneiche
  • Kassel
  • Mainz
