Italian freight operator, FS Logistix, has announced its selection of Stadler’s bi-mode locomotive platform EUROLIGHT Dual for its company Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal.
The locomotive is expected to enable the company to enhance efficiency, flexibility and sustainability across its national network.
Developed specifically for the requirements of the Italian railway network; the EUROLIGHT Dual combines 3kV DC electric traction with a Stage V diesel engine, enabling operation across both electrified and non-electrified routes.
The locomotive offers high performance, low weight and a reduced axle load of 20 tonnes, and has been designed for operation on both main lines and secondary lines throughout Italy. It aims to deliver up to 3 MW in electric mode and a starting tractive effort of 330 kN, while incorporating ETCS B3R2, SCMT and SSC safety systems to ensure full compatibility with the national network.
The logistics company of the FS Italiane Group; FS Logistix has begun to pursue an extensive transformation programme aimed at the development of an integrated, sustainable and customer-oriented European logistics system, with each of the eight EUROLIGHT Dual locomotives forming part of this broader investment plan and hoped to support the company in improving operational efficiency, service reliability and environmental performance.

Stadler, FS Logistix and Trenitalia will present the new EUROLIGHT Dual locomotive at this year’s InnoTrans. The event will take place on 22 September at 11:00 at the Stadler stand (Hall 2.2, Stand 230).
