Copenhagen will host the SmartMetro Conference this week, incorporating the 6th annual CBTC World Congress, from 35 November at the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, Copenhagen, a leading sustainable hotel. Click here for more information and here for your industry pass.
The Metro industry is a growth one, as countries around the world look to metros to reduce car congestion and pollution in cities, enabling increasingly urbanised populations to commute and travel in cost-effective and environmentally sustainable ways. The conference comes amid many new projects being launched around the world in urban passenger developments.
A theme of the conference will be the evolution of IT to provide better and more efficient service to passengers. There will be attention given to forward-thinking innovations such as intelligent metro networks, integrated transport systems to support urban growth, and a connected, futureproof metro network.
Other subjects covered will be sustainability, reliability and cost-effective measures. Exciting advances in automated technology such as driverless trains and automatic coupling will be looked at by Huawei. Case studies will be looked at in innovation, where improved performance and reliability with efficient operations management, data fusion and analysis are to enhance operations.
There will be a panel moderated by Nabil Ghaly, President of Rail Transport Engineering. This will look at the impact of communications-based train control on safe and efficient passenger management. At roundtable sessions, delegates will be able to choose among a range of topics to sit and discuss network optimisation and integration, energy efficiency, case studies of successful project upgrades, big data and asset management, or automatic coupling and automation.
A closing audience debate which promises to be very exciting will concentrate on fallback systems and risk management , focusing on the contentious issue of the necessity of fallback systems. The debate will begin with a presentation on the use of fallback systems, and a debate will follow as to whether keeping legacy systems in place following upgrades of CBTC is necessary.
SmartMetro will host representatives from Siemens, Keolis, Bombardier, Huawei, LeighFisher, Moxa, Systra as well as Metroselskabet, London Underground and London Rail, Rail Transport Engineering, MTR Stockholm, Prasarana Malaysia, ATTIKO Metro and Transport for Greater Manchester, among others. The conference will host delegates from as far afield as Australia, Malaysia, the USA, in addition to representatives from all over Europe. There will be plenty of opportunity to network with regular coffee breaks and a drinks reception on the first evening.
In addition, there will be interactive workshop sessions and site visits to Metroselskabet and Banedanmark faculties which will focus on the CBTC upgrade which is currently in the testing phase, coordinated jointly by Banedanmark and Siemens. A further interactive workshop will look at case studies from metro networks, looking at the unique challenges in the metro industry and the innovative ways they have been overcome. Now in its 6th year the show, incorporating CBTC World Congress is the definitive global event for metro and urban transit systems looking to build the smart, connected, safe and desirable networks of the 21st century.
With so many on-going projects in Denmark and the growth of urban transit in the country we are proud to showcase our rail systems at the show via case studies and site visits. We look forward to welcoming you to our operational centres.
SmartMetro will deliver a dynamic range of case studies, workshops and roundtables with diverse content and speakers; there is something here for the whole team. I hope you will take these opportunities, to meet, network, learn and engage with your global counterparts to improve the whole value chain of your business.
