The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) Stadler Rail has signed a contract $58 million, for 8 GTW trains. BART are planning to expand the use of the BART system and plans to use diesel units for this contract.

BART also has plans for an extension project, East Contra Costa (project Ebart). This includes the introduction of a new passenger service, on the 15km long new route. This new line connects the existing BART train station with a new train station in the city of Antioch.

With the expansion of project Ebart, the route will be increased between the lanes of State Route 4 and will be built where Ebart can enjoy the exclusive right of way.
