The first trainset from Amtrak’s new Airo fleet has completed testing in Pueblo, Colorado, and is now being transferred to the Northeast Corridor for further trials.

This move represents a key step in the planned introduction of new trains on the Amtrak Cascades route in 2026.

The Airo fleet forms part of Amtrak’s broader programme to update its passenger rail services. A total of 83 trainsets are scheduled to enter service across the United States, beginning with Amtrak Cascades and subsequently extending to the Northeast Regional and other routes.

The trainsets feature designs influenced by the Pacific Northwest and include modern passenger amenities and regional food and beverage options. The transfer to the Northeast Corridor will allow testing under different operational conditions ahead of the planned service rollout.
