Alstom has unveiled the first of 21 new Coradia Stream trains set to connect South Tyrol, Italy, & Tyrol, Austria.
Presented with STA – Strutture Trasporto Alto Adige SpA, the train, which will make up part of a new regional fleet, was revealed at a presentation at Malles Venosta Station (BZ) in conjunction with a series of celebrations commemorating the 20th of anniversary of the Val Venosta railway.

The event was attended by he President of the Autonomous Province of Bozen/Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher, the Provincial Councillor for Mobility, Daniel Alfreider, the Councillor for Mobility of the State of Tyrol, Renè Zumtobel, the President of the District Community, Roselinde Gunsch Koch, the General Director of STA, Joachim Dejaco and the Managing Director Alstom in Italy, Michele Viale.
Michele Viale, Managing Director Alstom Italy, said:With over 600 Coradia Stream trains designed, built, and put into commercial service by Alstom in Italy, the unveiling of the first regional train for STA marks a significant upgrade in connectivity between South Tyrol in Italy and Tyrol in Austria, and a further step forward for the national mobility system.
These new trains not only enhance regional services but also improve cross-border connections, offering maximum comfort and ensuring full accessibility for all passengers.
The Coradia units, which have been manufactured at Alstom’s Savigliano production site, are capable of reaching up to 160 km/h and measure in at 127.9 metres in length. Each train is capable of carrying 381 seated passengers and is equipped with the ERTMS signalling system.
Daniel Alfreider, Provincial Councillor for Mobility Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol, said:Today, for the first time, a Coradia Stream electric multiple train can be seen on South Tyrolean soil. Starting in mid-2026, these multi-unit trains will not only be in use in the Vinschgau Valley, but throughout the province.
The new multi-unit electric trains have continuous power of about 3,000 kilowatts at the wheels and reach a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The train offers 381 seats and thus carries up to 200 percent more passengers per trip than previous trains. There is also an expanded bicycle compartment.
The trains feature large spaces for bicycle storage, as well as fully accessible areas for passengers with reduced mobility including two wheelchair spaces, each containing power sockets, and one of two onboard toilets being completely PRM-compliant.
The new regional trains are set to enter commercial service in 2026, pending the completion of both validation and certification testing.
Alstom-led consortium, BULEMU, recently signed a contract with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Bulgaria for the supply of 35 electric Coradia Stream interregional trains .
