Alstom has signed a contract with Israel Railways (ISR) for the production of 96 double-decker train coaches.
The contract is valued at 260 million EUR. It was awarded on 23 October 2023 and signed on 23 January 2024.
The new coaches will enable ISR to operate eight-car trains on its routes, providing a capacity of over 1200 extra seats.
In addition, the contract includes an option to order further double-decker coaches in the future to allow train sets consisting of 10 coaches to operate.
This order is part of ISR’s initiative to switch solely to double-decker trains to meet increased ridership demands. To do so, the company is acquiring new coaches from both Alstom and Siemens Mobility.
