Alstom has signed a contract to supply 16 electric Traxx 3 MS locomotives with 20 years of maintenance to the Romanian Railway Reform Authority (ARF).

This contract is valued at 150 million EUR and includes an option to extend the maintenance services for a further 20 years.

Gabriel Stanciu, Managing Director Alstom Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova said:

I am delighted to see that Alstom’s rolling stock offer in Romania is being extended with electric locomotives for our esteemed customer ARF. The new locomotives will significantly contribute to the country’s journey towards sustainable mobility, aligning with Alstom's commitment to advancing greener and smarter mobility solutions worldwide.

It is anticipated that the new four-axle electric locomotives will improve mobility within and between Romania’s major cities.

They will have a maximum speed of 200 km/h and will be able to tow up to 16 passenger cars.

In addition, the Traxx 3 MS locomotives will be equipped with Alstom’s onboard ERTMS system to optimise efficiency and enhance safety and security, while also ensuring interoperability.
