Alstom has celebrated the commissioning of the first MF19 metro train on Line 10 of Paris’s metro, in collaboration with Île-de-France Mobilités and RATP.

The MF19, which has been financed in full by Île-de-France Mobilités and will be operated by RATP, will replace existing rolling stock across lines 10, 7bis, 3bis, 13, 12, 8, 3 and 7 of the Paris metro, with line 10 to be the first equipped with the new train.

Each MF19 vehicle comes equipped with cooling ventilation systems, ergonomic seating, USB ports and LED lighting, and has been designed to utilise a ‘boa’ structure, allowing passengers to move from one end of the train to the other.

The metro trains also feature reserved spaces for those with reduced mobility, audible and visual passenger information and widened doors, alongside real-time information screens informing passengers of the next stop.

All the Alstom employees who have worked on this project can be proud of this success, which is the result of a close collaboration with Île-de-France Mobilités and RATP.

The MF19 metro trains are capable of being fitted with 4 or 5 cars, and measure between 61 and 77.5 metres depending on platform lengths. It can also be made available with automatic driving options.

All configurations have been designed to be reversible in order to adapt to any changes on the line.

In order to accommodate the new vehicles; Line 10 has also been equipped with Alstom’s on-board on-board speed control system (Otys), which was developed in partnership with RATP.

The system provides location and speed control functions whilst meeting safety standards, and has already been deployed on Lines 5, 6, 9 and 11, with lines 7bis and 3bis also set to receive the system upgrade in the coming months.

A total of eight French Alstom sites were involved in the design and manufacturing of the rolling stock, including:

  • Valenciennes-Petite Forêt and Crespin: Studies, design, train assembly, testing/validation and homologation
  • Crespin and Le Creusot: Bogie production
  • Ornans: Engines
  • Tarbes: Traction chains
  • Toulouse: Development of electrical harnesses
  • Villeurbanne: On-board electronics
  • Aix-en-Provence: IT security

Alstom is now working with RATP in order to bring the MF19 into service on all lines.
