Germany: Mitsubishi Electric Wins Siemens Air-Conditioning Contract

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has won a €13.5million contract from Siemens AG to deliver 328 air-conditioning units on to 82 Desiro high-capacity trainsets (totaling 164 cars) on the Rhine-Ruhr Express (RRX) rail network. The network links key cities in the North Rhine-Westphalia region .

Mitsubishi stands as Japan’s first manufacturer of rail air-conditioning systems to receive International Railway Industry Standard certification. Mitsubishi have established local subsidiary companies to cater to the European markets, strengthening their presence on the continent.

Tetsuya Takahashi, head of the Transportation Systems business at Mitsubishi Electric Europe, said:

“Mitsubishi Electric considers Europe to be a key market with the highest demand in the world. This contract will not only enable us to bolster our presence on the continent, but also increase our links with car builders, railway operators and other local customers.”
